The Volkswagen Passat VS The Kia Optima

Drivers from all over Orange County want to know what they are getting from their new vehicle before getting the keys. So they do some research to see what features are offered and how much they cost. It is also a good idea to see what the competition has to offer to make sure you are getting the best vehicle with the features you want, all within your price range. McKenna 'Surf City' Volkswagen wants to help our customers in the Huntington Beach and greater Orange County area save time and get to the best part of shopping for a new car, going for a test drive. So here we are comparing the Kia Optima to the amazing 2017 Volkswagen Passat in a battle of the midsized sedans.

Advanced Safety

What is the most important thing drivers consider when shopping for a new vehicle? Hopefully safety. Because at the end of the day we all want to get home safely, and to do that, we need the latest advanced safety features providing us with peace of mind that our vehicles are scanning the road for potential danger. The Volkswagen Passat is off to a great start with standard Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Intelligent Crash Response System, and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System on all trim levels. The Kia Optima only features standard rearview camera. Features like Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Forward Collision Warning are optional or only available on the top level trims. The Passat also comes available with next level features, such as Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Distance Control, and Parking Steering Assistant.

While safety features and a strong powertrain are some of the main deciding factors of a new car, all the little extra features are like sprinkles on top of the cake, and the Volkswagen Passat has a lot more to offer than the Kia Optima. On the Kia Optima, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the only available options. The Passat uses Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect, which includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as other apps. The Volkswagen Passat also features standard automatic headlights and automatic locking doors.

We can't think of anyone in the Costa Mesa or Irvine area who wants to pay more for a new vehicle with less to offer. While the base level trim of the Kia Optima is slightly less than the Volkswagen Passat, the Passat has much more to offer. To get many of the advanced safety features and latest tech features, you will have to get a more expensive trim level on the Optima to get the optional packages. Not with the Passat, which comes standard with Bluetooth audio streaming, rearview camera, and much more.
